Think your VIN is enough to find the right brake rotors? Think again.

A customer recently contacted us looking for front brake rotors and brake pads for a 2020 Honda Accord 1.5L engine.

At first, the request seemed straightforward. But when we searched the parts catalog, two different front rotor sizes appeared:

šŸ”¹ 312 mm Diameter to see example of the Bosch rotors click here

So which one does the vehicle need?

Many people can assume you can simply measure the rotor. While that’s true, it’s not always practical. To measure a brake rotor accurately, the wheel needs to be removed, and ideally the rotor should be removed and laid flat so the diameter can be measured correctly. Most customers don’t have the tools, time, or ability to do this.

Our next step is usually to ask for the VIN, hoping it will narrow down the selection.

Unfortunately, that’s not always enough either.

Depending on the parts catalog, entering the VIN may still not identify the exact trim level, leaving more than one possible brake option.

Why does this happen?

Manufacturers often install different brake packages on the same year based on some factors such as:

āœ… Trim level
āœ… Production date
āœ… Regional specifications

So how can we determine the correct brake size?

Here are a few helpful clues:

– Knowing the trim level (Sport, LX, EX, Touring, etc.)
– Knowing the factory wheel size
– Sending a photo of the driver’s door information label if you’re unsure of the trim
– Contacting a Honda dealer, who can usually identify the original brake package using the VIN

These small details can make the difference between ordering the correct part the first time—or dealing with returns and delays.

At Find My Parts Hub, we’re building a smarter way to search for auto parts.

Our goal is to make finding the right part easier by helping identify situations where additional vehicle information is needed before an order is placed.

If you’re unsure which part fits your vehicle, submit a Parts Inquiry through https://fmphub.com/auto-parts-inquiry-fill-up-form/  and we’ll help point you in the right direction before you order.
